Put this on the list of what not to do.

Here some comments to the article.

I remember when I was taking surfing lessons. I always wondered how people broke limbs in water. I fell face forward and felt shockwaves down my spine. I was ok but my neck was sore for days. I gained a newfound respect for those who ride 20 foot waves.

As a lifetime surfer I feel your comment. I had a double fusion on my cervical spine in 2019 because of my favorite activity. Fused C5 to C6 and C6 to C7. Water is not so forgiving when you are going fast.

Lived for close to 40 years with a surgically repaired shoulder, achieved by cliff jumping at heights around 30 - 40 feet. Doesn't sound like much, but, water is not as forgiving as most people think.

Water is not soft and giving when falling into it at great distance and/or velocity
