Did they specify which sports the violations were committed in? I know our track team has been in big trouble a couple of times, not so sure about the other sports.

Asking same question. I know our track team went way out of control at one time during the mid to late 90's. Can't think of another sport that had any violations worth reporting as far as the NCAA is concerned.

Same with the track program at AAMU back in 1995. Our track team still has yet to recover from those sanctions.

Otherwise, I'm not aware of any of our other programs having any of these issues.

ummm I guess some folks need to be spoon-fed everything.
:look:

The violations for JSU were in track
football (83)
basketball (70)

Stop MH ............... Nobody need to be spoon fed anything. I know about '83 .......... I WAS IN SCHOOL THEN. I said NOTHING WORTH REPORTING ................ BUT SPOON-FED FOR YOU ...............

Nothing that was reported led to ANYTHING LIKE WHAT THE TRACK TEAM WAS HANDED DOWN.............. DAMM.

:look: :look: :look: :look: :look: :look:

LOL @ MH  ....I be like good grief, they act like they shat dont never stank.

Ey AAMU Alum,
....so thats what happened with the track teams at A&M, specifically the womens team. I always wondered why/how they hit rock bottom like they have, but now I know. Hmmm? we did have a bunch of Africans on the team back then......~interesting~

I never did understand why our track program couldn't stay out of trouble. Its not like we were world beaters even with the cheating. Hopefully that's behind us now with the new facilities and administration.

The bad part about the whole situation, was as you said, we have/had alot of foreign students on the track team (over 70%.) Most times, they did not return to their home countries during breaks...holiday, spring or summer, so they needed somewhere to live, some means of making a living, and food on the table.

This is one of the major problems I have with the NC 2 A. They won't allow for paying the athletes, and yet they don't want them to work to make money for themselves. The coaches in our track program were guilty of one thing...caring about the well-being of their athletes.

Ask a simple question ............. just like yesterday ............... and here comes a BAMMA led by their leader.

But watch ........... it will be my fault for responding.

We had a lot of Africans and Jamacians on ours. OUR COACHES AT THE TIME JUST DIDN'T CARE. They got over anyway they could until they got caught and fired.

I remember Barry Switzer saying this very thing right after the hammer was brought on his program. In fact, you hear that from a lot of coaches after they've been tapped on the shoulder by the NCAA. I guess its not possible to care about your athletes and operate within the rules.

Dang near impossiable. Coach can't even give a kid a $1 for bus fare home if an emergancy comes up.

Not only can the Coach NOT give a kid $1.00 for bus fare..................THE ALUMNI or ANYONE associated with the Univ can't either. If it is raining cats, dogs and frogs.............you can't give them a ride.

Let's say if some tragic situation happens and we lose an athlete.............the AD would have to paritian the NCAA in order for the school to provide a bus or any other transportation to carry the team as a whole to their teammates funeral!

If y'all have not checked out the New Rules (or the rule that goes into affect this starting this year) regarding the point system set up by the NCAA. (Example) If an athlete is taking the proper courses towards a degree he or she will have to have certain core courses and pass those courses in order for a school to receive a certain number of points +. If the athlete is NOT taking those core courses, the instituiton receives (-) negative points that could affect the number of scholarships a school can award. If an athlete comes into a program and leaves that program for whatever the reason, negative points could given to the University that could affect that schools recruiting or the programs elegibility. Also, the school is responsible for athletes who are not progressing with their class and negative points can be awarded in this situation.

I think this rule will require all schools to have someone in the Compliance Areas who knows the in's and out's of this rule.

Do the JSU peeps remember Coach Martin Epps??? He was the long-time Track Coach at JSU.......

I think he ultimately resigned/retired because of NCAA accusations, violations or infractions, stemming from giving money to athletes... Do any of y'all remember that girl 'Rachel' from Jamaica (I think). Real pretty, tall, slender, ran track during the early 90s????? Well, I know Coach Epps helped her pay for an airline ticket once (to go home).... He wasn't trying to be 'crooked', he was just being helpful.....

But the NCAA was already looking at him (by then)..... :xeye:

I knew it came out they were paying some of them that could not go home during the summer for housing, others got money for trips home and other stuff.

So it was either resign or be terminated huh? All I know is when shat hit the fan, the results was quick.
