BEST COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES FOR SALARY POTENTIAL

Payscale .com has released its annual report for the best colleges and universities based on earnings potential. The bachelor degree-granting institutions are ranked from 1 through 1531. As you might expect, such institutions as Princeton, MIT, CIT, Harvard, Yale, and a few other small private schools lead the pack. As best I can, I have picked out SWAC and other HBCUs and a few other prominent universities with which to compare and gauge our HBCUs. Howard is the highest ranking HBCU, and Prairie View has the highest ranking among SWAC schools. I was a little surprised at the extremely low ranking of several small private HBCUs that traditionally charge high tuition and fees to attend. These sporadic rankings are as follow:
249 Howard
263 LSU-Baton Rouge
415 tie Florida State, U of Alabama, & Kansas State
458 PV
473 Mississippi State
486 Xavier of Louisiana
504 Tuskegee
513 NCAT
542 Ole Miss
585 U of South Carolina
588 Hampton
613 U of Cent. Florida
673 U of Louisville
758 Texas-San Antonio
779 Southern Univ.-Baton Rouge
784 Youngstown State
790 Wichita State
825 Boise State
848 tie U of Memphis, Fisk Univ,
918 Delaware State
1005 Morgan State
1023 tie AAMU. Clark-Atlanta
1047 TX-Southern
1051 Virginia State
1056 South Carolina State
1098 Langston Univ.
1136 Coppin State
1172 Tennessee State
1174 Seton Hall
1188 Charleston Southern
1202 Kentucky State
1246 Albany State
1274 Norfolk State
1276 WSSU
1276 North Carolina Central U.
1281 tie Alabama State, Arkansas-Little Rock
1345 Bethune-Cookman
1347 Grambling State
1364 Jackson State U.

1400 Central State U.
1411 Talledega
1426 William Carey
1427 Paul Quinn
1431 Savannah State
1441 Tougaloo
1435 Virginia Union
1441 Cheney State
1467 Alcorn State
1473 UAPB

1479 SUNO
1488 tie Lane, Wiley
1493 Fort Valley
1506 Benedict
1523 MVSU
1524 Claffin
1525 Miles
1531 Philander-Smith
There are several other HBCUs that I omitted to list, but they also bring up the rear.

This is not necessarily a sports subject but I believe it has some relevance to the HBCU world. Payscale.com has released its annual report in which it ranks all colleges and universities from 1 through 1531 according to the earning potential of their graduates. The higher rankings were, as you might expect, dominated by such institutions as MIT, CIT, Princeton, Harvard, Yale and the like. I have extracted all SWAC schools and their rankings along with some non-SWAC rankings, for comparison purposes. I was appalled at the low rankings of many smaller HBCUs that tend to charge high tuition and fees to attend. Please check it out for yourself and reach your own conclusions!

No link???

A lot of those smaller HBCU's are strictly about prestige. It has nothing to do with the return value (salaries) their graduates will receive in the job market. IMO, PV, NCA&T, and SU are the three HBCUs where graduates can get more bang for their buck, which should be a marketing tool for those schools. Howard and Tuskegee are very expensive.

A lot of smaller HBCUs don't have engineering or nursing, which have higher immediate earning potential.

True, which should make them less in demand. And everyone knows from economics that when demand is high, cost goes up, and when demand is low, cost goes down. Pretty much the only thing they have to offer with their high tuition is prestige.

Yep. Xavier is one private school that rates pretty high but they have Pharmacy and a Dual-Degree Engineering program. Plus they are a leader in placing AAs in Medical School.

I assume their dual-degree engineering program is with UNO since Tulane decided to end some it programs after Katrina.

I take the rankings with a grain of salt b/c they didn't fully disclosure how they got these numbers. But please note the top three SWAC schools are heavy in STEM programs ... that's where all the big bucks are.
