Archie Manning: 2014 Saints may be the best in franchise history

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 12, 2014, 3:54 PM EDT

Archie Manning spent 11 seasons in New Orleans, and he was never on a good team: The Saints’ record in games he started was 35-91-3, and never did they finish a season above .500. So it should go without saying that the Saints today are a much better team than the Saints teams that Manning played on.

But Manning would go further than that: He believes that the 2014 Saints are the best team the franchise has ever seen.

The last time we had a normal offseason we won it all, this has as been as close to one the organization has had since 09.

You are right my brother. I am exciting. I am days away from getting a hook up on some season tickets. I am fired up.

The Saints will have to overcome their old back in the day NFL West nemesis San Francisco and of course Seattle to get to the Super Bowl......GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

Must we read this dribble this year........again? These Aints folks are getting worst than the sU folks. Every year we have to read how great they are until their season falls apart, then they disappear until the next year claiming to be great again.

EVERY year, same crap.

And the way they structured it is cap friendly. Loomis is a genius.

Although he lost his appeal, which I think he knew wasn't going to fly, this was a win-win situation for both him and the Saints. I had already said that he was going to get a contract that would be worth anywhere between $9 million to $10 million per year. I believe Drew Brees taught him how to maximize things on that franchise tag.

I wonder would the stank dirty birds give Tony Gonzalez a contract worth $50 million for 4-years not to retire, because they are definitely in need of a TE. They did give Matty Ice a five year contract extension worth $105 million dollars right after the Saints cut a deal with Drew Brees.

At least we can talk, but one team in our division has had a real hard time trying to rise up. Who ever heard of a bird that can't rise in flight, which is why they should change their name to "Plucked Chickens"?

Old Archie smoking that good stuff.....

I guess it's not just Archie, because there's a lot of people saying the same thing. The Saints football team has continually improve since Coach Payton return from suspension in the 2012 season. IMO, I think they can beat the 49ers, but the Seahawks will be their test. In the 2012 season, they had one of the best offense in the NFL, but the NFL's worst defense. In 2013, their defense was ranked 4th in the NFL with the addition of Defensive Coach Rob Ryan. The Saints did whatever they could this offseason to improve their defense. With one of the NFL's top offense and defense, the Saints should definitely be one of top three teams in the NFL. IMO, there are four elite teams in NFL and they are all in the NFC (Saints, Seahawks, Packers, 49ers).

I agree. We lost to the Superbowl Champions AT THEIR HOME with basic mistakes. Yet the Great White Hope Peyton Manning got dusted. Now this was with a new defensive coordinator and a coach back from a year long suspension...now just think what they could do working together an entire off season....

That's ok...THE SAINTS will show you in a month.
