With hardwork and dedication, Alabama State University alumna Christina Karis (‘06) is set to star as Kari Bennett in AMC’s upcoming season of “The Walking Dead: World Beyond.”
Inspired by professor and actress Dr. Tommie “Tonea” Stewart, retired dean of ASU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Karis revealed that as a child she was not always confident to tell others her aspirations of wanting to be an actress. It wasn’t until she began her collegiate career as a mass communications major at ASU that she was encouraged by those who had her same dreams and goals to switch her major and become a theatre arts student.
“I’ve always felt chosen by God to be an actress,” she said. “Storytelling gives me joy and a sense of purpose in this world. Not just the creative process of character portrayal, but the knowledge that I am helping others in the same way stories helped me.”
