George Ross, the newly selected president of Alcorn State University, has been diagnosed with acute leukemia.

Ross, who was selected by the state College Board this spring, was scheduled to begin at Alcorn July 2.

Annie Mitchell, spokeswoman for the College Board, said today it?s too early to know if Ross? diagnosis will impact his presidency.

He is currently the vice president of finance and administrative services at Central Michigan University and is undergoing treatment in Michigan, according to a press release from the College Board.

He was diagnosed last week and is being treated at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., according to Steve Smith, director of media at CMU.

Ross was picked to replace the late Clinton Bristow Jr., who died of heart failure on the Lorman campus

Dr.Ross needs to focus on getting well and taking this job will take him away from the doctors who are treating him and put him under a lot of stress. This is very unfortunate.
