Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Revealed

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

It's Pimpin, pimpin.

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

Hold up Frat. That was nothing to do with SU in Mobile. We played Bama State when it was our home game in Baton Rouge. We didn't give up our home game for that. Only one AD did some stupid isht at SU like that. Even if we didn't get a dime to go to Mobile we came out on top versus having to drive all the way to Montgomery. Mobile is straight down I-10 for SU. Way easier and cheaper than going to Montgomery. It was Bama State moving their HOME game down there. If anything getting that paycheck from the GCC was extra in my book. Remember for awhile they alternated us and JSU in Mobile. Same as PV is doing with both our schools in Shreveport. One thing you could say about ole Marino Casem and then Floyd Kerr later on was that SU was not just going to go cheap to any ole Classic. Even LaFluer was smart enough to get some money before we went anywhere. Even that stupid deal to move our home game to Jackson he and Clayton brokered did pay out. More than a Classic would have. So yall can leave SU out of this one. LOL.

The Circle City Classic has lost it's luster. We went a couple of times. Once to play Hampton and the other to play NC A&T. I think one was in 98 or 99 and the other one was in 94.

And after that first of 3 times, JSU fans refused to travel down there.
It just was not worth our time and the money was funny. They would put the schedule out and every year MOBILE was on it, people around here would collectively .....GROAN.

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

That's why I find this situation so fascinating. If this game were played in Lorman, as was originally scheduled, Grambling would not have gotten anything for making the trip.

Yeah that is a trip. Basically to me looking from the outside, that the Circle City Classic wanted Grambling to come up to Indy but yall were slated to play Alcorn on the day of the Classic. So basically your administration went to Alcorn along with the CCC folks and got them to move their home game to Indy. Even though JRock is being funny. He is right that the Classic must have wanted Grambling more so than Alcorn and since they did, they paid the ICON (Thanks GSUPE) more money to get them do convince ole Alcorn to move their home game.

See, your alma mater is used to dealing with Classics and such. Grambling ain't no fool. They have been pros at this for a long time. Somebody at Alcorn dropped the ball on this. If anything, they should have been asking the CCC for more money for having to move their home game. At least LaFluer was smart enough to get JSU to let SU have 80% of the gate when we moved our home game to Jackson and got 20% of the gate when it was JSU's home game when we would have not gotten anything for coming to Jackson those years. It was only the principal of the matter that upset SU folks. Money wise it probably wasn't a bad deal. Even our going to Mobile was no biggie. Bama State just decided to play SU in the GCC instead of Montgomery so it was cool with SU. The GCC was just slow paying their money to SU.

I could see if this was Grambling's home game. But Alcorn blew a chance of having a sellout crowd on the reservation against your second biggest rival in the conference. A game that would have made Alcorn money and kept home field advantage in a game you might need at the end of the year to go to the SCG should you lose at a neutral site. Poor decision in my book and the fact Gram gets an extra 100K is a slap in Alcorn's face. Would not want to be their Prez and AD having to explain this.

Don't know why it was a big deal for yall. Mobile or Montgomery is about the same drive from Jackson. Actually Mobile is an easier drive. Wasn't like JSU was given up their home game. At least you would be playing them on a neutral site. I always thought Bama State was giving up home field by playing us in Mobile where there are more SU alums in that region than Montgomery and it was an easy road trip for the Jag Nation.

JSU fans were just being fickle. Little did they realize it was an ADVANTAGE to play Bama State in Mobile. Neutral Field and helps in recruiting a rich football area like Mobile and nearby Pensacola. Wasn't like you guys were going to Mobile every year. You still played them in Jackson for your home game when it was your time to host them. The GCC was just poorly run is all. Wasn't a bad idea.

No KIDDING. :lecture:

JSU fans was not being fickled. People in Jackson just didn't like MOBILE. That weekend, everyday JSU peeps outside of the hardcore, no matter what alums, would not even plan to go to Mobile.

Last time I went to Mobile, we road around about 2 hours being shuffled from the liquor store, to the package store, to the bottle store trying to find something to drink after the game. Each one closed at a later time. After so long, I gave up and went back to the hotel room and finished off my stash, looking at a beached battleship the rest of the night.

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

Same Louisiana school that moved their home game to Jackson MS  Please
typical SU user to try and make this about SU and not about GSU and Alcorn. smh
The article clearly states that Alcorn and Grambling are getting paid. I didn't see where it stated that SU will recieve X-amount of $dollars lol

Personally, I think Chris Brown dropped the ball on this one. Its funny though, only because Braveheart is about to lose his marbles :splat:. More power to Grambling's Admin for using their mouthpiece  (Maybe Gram pitched their Band... sayingThey're World Famed and it will boost attendance/revenue if Marketed correctly. Which booked them an extra 100k) Its all business. Who knows

Somebody from Lorman Explain this to me: Brown moved the JSU/Alcorn game away from Jackson b/c JSU received more money and Alcorn received peanuts.
Only to turn around and sign off on a contract that... nevermind.

Honestly, I think Alcorn is doing this because Chris Brown is DESPERATE to have a "Classic" game. (If you could just sit and listen to Brown talk in the barbershop then you'd understand why I say that)

Best of Luck to both teams in the Classic!

And they liked Montgomery better? I actually like ole Mobile. All the JSU fans had to do was come on back to Ms Coast and gamble and eat like a mofo at the Casinos. I don't what the JSU fans were doing in Montgomery so much to hate Mobile.

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

Nobody is desperate to have a classic... this is a dumbest bs I've seen!

I like where Mobile is located....2 hours away from N.O. and the proximity of the water, casions and of course the food. I believe I would prefer living in Montgomery though if someone twisted my arm, held a gun to my head and made me make the choice. :emlaugh:

I attended the JSU/Bama mobile game once. I believe it was 2006. We won but I still didn't care for that trip.

Back to Grambling and Alcorn. When wa the last time Alcorn hosted Gram in Lorman?

Not really.
Rather play a game in a opponents home town than move it to a town that is even worse as for out of town peeps. Mobile is just not a place people in Jackson even think about going. If someone is headed in that direction, you better believe they blowing through MOBILE and headed to Florida somewhere.

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

This has to be a slap in the face to Alcorn fans because a rival school is getting more money than the hosting team. Does Brown even recognize the Alcorn/Grambling rivalry?
I wonder what the head coach is thinking about this debacle?

Your president is. And the dumbest BS you've seen is that contract he signed off on.
Y'all stay getting hoe'd and this time you can't blame JSU. Its your administration that signs off on those dumb ass classics that don't want to pay ya'll.

Go Grambling: Get that Money

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

At the End of the Day, when they Travel the Bands, teams, and everything else to Indy neither team will come much, maybe 100k.. Im Sure Alcorn could have cleared 100k in Lorman... But we are talking two country Schools thats trying to get to the Big City

Re: Alcorn State vs. Grambling: 2013 Circle City Classic Football Game Payouts Reveal

JR: Moblie wasn't that bad... IMO (but I don't miss it at all! )
I'm cool with going to Montgomery.

Yep...........Can't be mad at GRAM.

They went from a away game at Alcorn and collecting "nothing" to going to INDY and collecting $330,000. One Hundred Thousand more ALCORN before they agreed to move it to INDY Classic. Alcorn could have made more than $230,000 by just selling $15,000 tickets at Alcorn.

And I assume that $230,000 do not include expenses to and from INDY which is why they providing "up front money" into each schools accounts by a certain date..

A couple of things:

For the sake of clarity (and accuracy) GSU's payout is $90K more than Alcorn. GSU is getting $320K...not $330K. Alcorn is getting $230K.

Also, only Alcorn is getting the 20% deposit upfront. The rest will come within 90 days after the game. Grambling is getting all of its money on the back end (within 90 days).

Do you think this why they gave Gram more? Because yall are willing to wait until 90 days after the game to collect opposed to Alcorn wanting 20% up front?

I have no idea...which is why I reached out to them (IBE) to get some kind of explanation.

Yes, it is real hard for me to forget 1999. TNST finished the season ranked #1 in I-AA, JSU had two first round draft choices, NC A&T upset TNST in the first round of the playoffs. FAMU was close to making it to the finals of the playoffs but let Youngstown State come from behinds and win. Southern vs. Hampton at the CCC was BCF #2 vs. #1 (Southern won). Southern won SCG I over JSU marking the 2nd win in front of a combined total of 110,000 fans. Hampton came back and beat Southern in Atlanta in the Heritage Bowl. BCF was strong and awesome that year.
