Alabama State University student Alex Sawaleh was a few minutes late opening the door to his business across from the school Friday morning. He was tied up handling a tech problem for a local company, one of several where he serves as an IT contractor.

“My time is kind of tight,” Sawaleh laughed.

The Jordan native moved to the United States when he was 18 and wound up studying computer information systems at Wallace Community College in Selma. He’s now finishing up a computer science degree at ASU while running his own small business, US Tech Repair.
