Alabama gets $2.17 for every $1 paid in federal taxes, report states

States likes Alabama, indeed like all southern states and many western and midwestern states, are considered "Donee" or "Taker" states because they receive more in federal funding than they pay out. States such as New York, California, and Illinois are considered "Donor" or "Giver" states because they pay out way more than they take in. Other DONOR states would be Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and other wealthier states of the upper Northeast. Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky receive the most in federal dollars. And just to think that a Mississippi legislator recently suggested that Mississippi should consider succeeding from the Union.

Money from the federal government is redistributed back to states in the form of grants, aid programs for the needy and payments to major government contracting firms such as defense companies.

So, that federal government money is paying a lot of people salaries in Huntsville.

That's why that stuff the Republicans and all of these antigovernment people talk is bunch of crap. America has a mixed economy. It would have never survived with pure capitalism.
