The reputed best conference in the country has some explaining to do.

The Atlantic Coast Conference, which sent nine teams to the NCAA tournament, has one left standing (North Carolina) after two rounds. That's quite a slide from a year ago when the ACC put a record six teams in the Sweet 16 and two in the Final Four, a banner year that came with offseason bragging rights.

The bragging might be quieter this offseason.*

Surpassing expectations was the much-maligned Big Ten, slammed throughout the season and ignored completely in February when the selection committee offered a preview of its thinking: No Big Ten teams were among the top 16 seeds (none, the committee said, merited a 1, 2, 3 or 4).

True

Is this the year of the BIG 10?

Not really. The Big Ten had a terrible year by Big Ten perspectives which saw Indiana coach Tom Crean fired and calls for Ohio State Head Coach Thad Matta to be fired after all the success he has had. But now has fallen off the last 2-3 years. Michigan State is young so Izzo is kind of rebuilding. So to see that the BIG had 3 teams advance the Sweet Sixteen was surprising. I think the SEC has made a better showing than usual and it looks like several programs may finally be heading back the right direction.

ACC got caught up in some bad matchups with teams that were seeded too low. The one and done has given parity to the conferences so to speak. The Duke's and UNC's will always have McDonald's All Americans to help carry the ACC. Syracuse, Louisville, Notre Dame were not that great this year versus past years.

ACC always has young teams because they have so many early departures.... If we kept our kids one more year, it wouldn't be close....

One and done's almost killed Georgia Tech basketball. We on our way back now tho!

Outside of UNC, what other schools have constant early departures???

Heck, Arkansas had UNC beat too. That would have really sent their conference fans into a frenzy. lol

I like Wisconsin!

They are one of the few teams that have at least four seniors starting. They were severely under-seeded, but got put in a good bracket with Villanova. Most of us Big 10 fans knew they would beat them and make it to the Sweet 16.

Villanova?

Who would have thought that South Carolina would be the SEC representative in the final four.

GO Gonzaga Bulldogs!

TP, for the foreseeable future the ACC will be the best all around conference. Basketball is a given as the quality of teams and coaching are unparalleled.

Our bowl performance and head to domination against the SEC was no fluke. Even our Jackets have beaten the bullpups twice with subpar teams under Johnson.

My bet is the trifecta will occur once the ACC wins the College World Series in Omaha.

Hail to the Atlantic Coast Conference - best combination of academic and athletic prestige in the NCAA!

One Good year and the ACC people are coming out of their shells. You will never dominate the SEC in anything on a consistent basis.

I take that back.. Maybe Lacrosse....

The SEC is changing though. Football coaches outside of Saban are not that great hence the teams not being that great. Basketball, the ACC will always dominate the SEC. That will not change. They are going to be better in the SEC but not ACC better. Baseball will be the SEC strong point.
