AAMU to Launch Channel on Comcast Cable

Huntsville, Ala. ---- Literally thousands of households in the Huntsville vicinity will be administered a healthy dose of maroon and white when Alabama A&M University joins the Comcast Cable System in launching Channel 78, a channel devoted exclusively to programming by, for and about AAMU Monday, December 16, at 11 a.m.

The launching ceremony for Channel 78 will be held on the second floor of the Morrison Building, adjacent to the campus offices of WJAB-FM. A reception will follow in the Clyde Foster Multipurpose Room of the School of Business.

According to Elizabeth Sloan-Ragland, director of AAMU?s Telecommunications and Distance Learning Center, Channel 78 will be received by the Comcast Cable System?s more than 40,000 households. The Telecommunications and Distance Learning Center already boasts a 100,000-watt jazz and blues radio station, the transmission of which spans from Birmingham to Nashville. Its on-campus television studio also offers the University enviable self-sufficiency to reach its various constituencies.

The addition of Channel 78 to the Comcast line-up will allow the University to carry its public affairs, distance learning, interview programs, job announcements and other needed communication to a broader spectrum, noted AAMU President John T. Gibson.

Local officials and University administrators are expected to attend the launching of Channel 78 Monday. For additional information, contact Liz Sloan-Ragland at (256) 372-5793.

Good stuff A&M. We need more of this across the state. Hopefully they will have options for these stations in the local/regional cable packages in Alabama.
