(CNN) -- George Zimmerman apologized Friday to the family of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed African-American teen that he shot in a confrontation that riveted a nation and sparked intense discussions about racial profiling and gun laws.

Zimmerman spoke moments before a Florida judge set a $150,000 bond that will let him get out of jail while he awaits trial.

"I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son," Zimmerman said. "I did not know if he was armed."

I think if Zimmerman would have said this as soon as it happened, spoke to the family and turned himself in without all of the secret shit there would have been a different societal response.
 
He either has a dumb as shit lawyer or he's dumb as shit. No way would anyone with good sense admit the last part. AT ALL

And $150000 bail?? That's it for this high profile case?????? BULLSHIT.

I watched his bond/bail hearing on TRU TV and when the defense attorney (Mark O'Mara (sp)) asked him why he waited until now to issue an apology to Trayvon Martin's parents (particularly his mother), Zimmerman told him he was instructed not to. The defense attorney asked him if he had ever expressed any kind of remorse or sorrow for shooting Trayvon Martin, and Zimmerman said he did when he filed (one of his 3-5 different statements to the police). He then asked Zimmerman that he (prosecutor) were to go back and listen to his taped reports, would he find that he (Zimmerman) expressed sorrow or remorse for shooting Trayvon and Zimmerman said, "Yes".

Also, Zimmerman's family were allowed to testify by telephone because they feared their lives were too much in danger to make a court appearance.

Zimmerman also said that he didn't know Trayvon's age and that he thougt Trayvon was a few years younger than himself......yet on the 911 call, Zimmerman referred to Trayvon as a suspicous looking "kid".....


TRU TV also reported that Trayvon Martin's family made an impressionable appearance as they walked into to court; they were mobb deep!:tup:


Also, that bastard Zimmerman had a bullet-proof vest on under his suit!

The dude has a constitutional right to bond. Y'all would be hard pressed to find any criminal defendant denied bond for a manslaughter charge. Just doesn't happen. In Jackson, bond woulda been less than that for Pooky and Ray Ray.

Hey P,

This was all over nation wide news. And the news didn't leave out any details. This is how they reported it:

"A crazy Black woman killed a White woman for her White baby so she can convince a Black man that she was dating think that the White baby was their baby. Supposedly, the crazy Black woman did this so that the Black man she was seeing would not leave her. Also, this leaves the poor White father to raise this White baby by himself."

As always, it's the Black man's fault.:smh::emlaugh:

I know the defense is saying Zimmeran acted in self-defense?.. But my take is you don't get out of your truck in the hood and walk up to a dude and say wassup or what you doing here? And you don't have a police uniform on or a detective badge?? If anything Trayvon had the right to act on the "stand your ground law" because if he swung first-- (which i doubt..you gonna swing with some Skittles and a bottle of tea ???)---obviously he felt threatned. It's all about how much common sense and street sense the jury will have. And the idea Zimmeran yelling for help with a 9mm gun on him ????? Why yell for help when you are armed?? Zimmerman is crazy..I have seen that look .

I dont. See Zimmerman is on tape saying that he believes that the guy is 18 years old. Now he's saying that he thought he was a few years younger? He keeps getting caught in his own lies.

He will still be in hiding until his court hearing. When his hearing is done, he will either be back in jail after he is found guilty...or society will seek its own justice.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did walk. This IS Florida we are talking about...remember Casey Anthony?

And as for the crazy black lady who tried to bring that crap to Spring, if she gets off on Temporary Insanity, then she should lose her right to raise her kids or even be around them. She can't have her cake and eat it too.

Anyway... I guess since I live in Spring, I have to "rep my hood" now. smh

REALLY?? I hope I am either misunderstanding or some of you are being sarcastic. I'd rather believe that than believe that any of my brothers or sistes would defend such actions and use the crutch of racism to somehow paint this murderer a victim. :smh:

I have children. I couldn't imagine dying in a car accident or something and leaving them to be raised without me. NOW imagine some derranged psycopath murders you in cold blood and rips your infant child from your arms while you bleed to death.. This aint about race folks. . . I guess this went way over his head, but he is somewhat right. By the time this case with the stolen baby goes to trial, the victim will be the crazy Black woman and the Black man she was dating should be the one that needs to go to jail. Somehow, her attorneys will plead insanity for her by saying the Black man she was dating caused her to lose her mind, which created a single parent of the baby's poor White father. Her attorney's closing augments will be, "if the Black man she was dating would have agreed to stay with her, none of this would have happen".
 
I'll be very surprised if they convict this dude...no one cares about black boys/men getting shot to death.

You can say that again. By the time this case is over with, it will be Trayvon's fault and his parents would need to apologize to Zimmerman and Zimmerman's family.

I hear ya'll. And I understand the sentiment. I just have faith in what America is now becoming so I disagree. I think that America today is not the America of 1965. We have elected a black president and that speaks volumes to the changing culture of WHITE america.

With the media attention this has gotten, I see worst case scenerio, Zimmerman pleads down to manslaughter and has to do 5 of a 20 year sentence. But I also see the repeal or substanial revision of the 'stand your ground' law. .
 
Police chief in Trayvon Martin case to resign

(CNN) -- Sanford, Florida, Police Chief Bill Lee is expected to resign Monday, 57 days after his department declined to arrest neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, according to a city official familiar with the matter.

Lee announced that he was temporarily stepping aside on March 22, a day after Sanford's city commission expressed a lack of confidence in his handling of the incident.
