Listening to the SWAC teleconference. Coach Anthony Jones said his team will not take a bus to play PV. The team will fly to Houston on Friday.

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

Wow!! Great news. Man those bus trips are hard on players. Jones wants this game huh?

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

uh oh..They plan to be fresh for this one...

That long ride would have been murder for the team...

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

Melvin Spears, regarding the Alcorn Alums who what him out said, "I am an Alcorn alumnus too". He said he wants to see the program excel just like everyone else (Alcorn alums). He said the program hasn't seen success the last 18 years. Not sure why people would complain now. It hasn't even been a year yet.

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

Monte Coleman said his game Saturday against Texas Southern is a "playoff game". "If we lose we are out. If we win we still have a chance."

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

We've been taking those same long bus rides all the way to Bama A&M and we still beat them. At the end of the day, you have to play the games whether you ride in on a bus or fly.

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

Doug Williams said Mario Lewis reminds him of a young Terrell Owens.

He raises a good point!

Re: No bus trip for Alabama A&M

Okay, and while I agree...did the long bus ride from Jackson to Huntsville impact JSU's play?

Jackson isnt far from Huntsville.... probably the closest SWAC school to AAMU besides Bama State and even Bama State is 3 hours.

He's referring to the times we've beaten you in your HOME STADIUM.

Carry on.

Actually he doesn't. Early 2000 the alumni protested about Coach Thomas but because the president at the time didn't care about athletics so he stayed. Coach Thomas actually turned it around but just didn't have the capacity to take us over much more than a winning season. Thomas had 6 winning season after that but the alumni wanted championships and he couldn't produce. After Bristow died Thomas knew before the start of the season that was a make it or break season for him. He broke it and was let go. So Spears saying we hadn't won anything in 18 years is a lie.

I think he was talking about championships.

Spears is full of isht! We complained and Cardell Jones got fired. We complained, protested, and everything else to get rid of Johnny Thomas after he failed to produce. We didn't complain about Earnest Jones because we saw some good things in the program. He was gone after a year. Then, Collins took over and we were very excited to see the team finally starting to look like it was on the way back to the top of the SWAC. We got Brandon Bridge last year and he gave us even more hope. We had nothing to complain about. Even when Collins left and Spears was hired, we didn't complain. We thought that Spears was going to get us over that hump to get us to Birmingham and the SCG.
Not even a year later, the team only has two wins, numerous players have been kicked off the team, and there was the very public "Brandon Bridge event and dismissal" all on Spears' watch. Not to mention several comments that have been made by him in regards to alumni, fans, and even the president of the university. Spears is trying to incite a riot and he's about to get his wish.

One question that has to be addressed is whether or not those players who were kicked off the team deserved it. I do agree that things have gotten very grim since his arrival.

Thomas didn't turn nothing around coaching wise. He hid behind the talent of Charlie Spiller, Nate Hughes, Jeremy McCoy etc.

He's probably thinking about how it was said (commentary during the ala a/m tx sou game) that tx southern was looking worn down (from the ride over) as the game progressed.
