Members of the Howard University Showtime Marching Band created a social media buzz on Saturday when they announced at halftime, during the Bison’s football game against Savannah State, that the band is protesting the school for lack of funding.

“As a band we’ve decided to wear all black in protest for the lack of a budget, more specifically scholarships for the band program and to shed light on the lack of financial support for the student body”, the band members said in a statement. “Until the university addresses these issues we will not support this university with our musicianship.”

The band dedicated the halftime show to the late Bob Jackson, a former Howard University staff member.
