LAFAYETTE, La. – Errors and the absence of offense spelled doom for Mississippi Valley State in a 5-0 loss to Baylor in the NCAA Regionals on Saturday. The loss ended the season for the Devilettes who finished at 34-19.
Baylor got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning and another in the second. The Devilettes committed three costly errors and dug themselves a 2-0 hole. It would be more than enough as the MVSU offense was held to two hits. The Lady Bears added two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to cap off the scoring.
Alicia Lorenz held Baylor in check for awhile, despite the early errors behind her. But, she would take the loss, ending the season with a 19-10 record. She allowed eight hits and two earned runs in six innings. Lorenz issued three walks, while striking out four.
Kishti Kamaka and Jessika Sandoval had the hits for the Devilettes. Both players were 1-for-2 in the game. Kamaka’s hit was a double.
