OFFENSIVE – QB Bobby Reid, Texas Southern; 6-3, 230; SR, Houston, TX
Reid completed 20 of 33 passes for 211 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT and rushed 22 times for 40 yards and two touchdowns in leading Texas Southern to their first win since 2006, a 40-29 win over Shaw in the Capital City Classic in Sacramento, Ca.
Reid led the Tigers back from 10-0, 13-3, and 22-17 deficits. His two-yard scoring run in the second quarter gave TSU their first lead of the season at 17-16. In the decisive third quarter, Reid led the Tigers on four consecutive scoring drives (1 FG, 3 TDs) to open the second half.
Reid’s six-yard TD pass to Roland Robins gave them the lead for good at 33-29. Reid’s four-yard TD run near the end of the third quarter capped the scoring. It was TSU’s first win since Oct. 28, 2006 when they defeated Grambling State 33-28.
DEFENSIVE – CB Kenneth Anio, Grambling State; 6-0, 180; SR, Jackson, LA
Anio made a team-high 11 tackles and recovered a fumble, which he returned 33 yards for the Tigers first touchdown in their 31-19 loss at Northwestern State Sunday afternoon. Of Anio’s tackles, nine of them were solo stops.
SPECIALIST –  CB Desmond Lenard, Grambling State; CB, 5-11, 170; JR, Monroe, La.
Lenard averaged nearly 25 yards on four kickoff returns at Northwestern State. Lenard had returns of 21, 8, 18, and 51 yards, the final return in the fourth quarter which led to a GSU touchdown which cut the deficit to 24-19 with 2:33 to play.Â
NEWCOMER – CB DeMarkus Washington, Texas Southern; 5-9, 160; FR, Dallas, TX
Washington made two interceptions, while tallying a combined 50 return yards. His first interception in the third quarter was returned 27 yards that led to the go-ahead touchdown for the Tigers as they took the lead for good, 33-29.
Washington made his second pick in the fourth quarter with just over five minutes to play to seal the Tigers first win of the season. He also added one tackle and one pass breakup in the game, and had three kickoff returns for 46 yards.
