METEGHAN, Canada – Jackson State’s Mireille LeBlanc captured her first Amateur crown when she took the NSGA Royale Women’s Golf Tournament as she finished with a 4-over 76. Leblanc finished the first of three rounds posting a 76. With the six-stroke lead, LeBlanc was one of two players to break 80 in the first round.
“This was definitely the best tournament I have played, considering the circumstances” Leblanc said. Following a day of inclement weather which resulted in a two-hour delay during the second round, LeBlanc managed to keep her lead. LeBlanc secured her victory as she headed into the final round with a 54 hole lead. She tallied consecutive birdies on 4 and 5, and chipping in on the par-4 fourth and sinking a 50-foot putt on the par-3 fifth.
LeBlanc will play in the four-round Nova Scotia foursome at the Royal Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship which begins July 29 at the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg.
