mvsulogo.jpgItta Bena, Miss. — The Mississippi Valley State University family mourns the death of former Athletic Director and Sports Information Director Charles “Chuck” Prophet. Prophet, 67, passed around midday today in the Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Miss.

A pioneer in the field of athletics administration, Prophet, was widely known as “The Wagon Master” of the famed SWAC football press tours. In 2005 he was honored when the football field at Rice-Totten Stadium was renamed Charles “Chuck” Prophet Field and in 2006 was enshrined into the Mississippi Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

A resident of Greenwood, Prophet served as president of the Greenwood-LeFlore Alumni Chapter.

He is survived by wife Anna, daughters and sons and grandson. Services are incomplete at this time, but further information will be released as it becomes available.

“Words cannot express how dearly Chuck will be missed,” said interim athletics director Donald Sims. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Anna and the rest of the family. Chuck will always remain in our hearts.”

Was a great man and will be truly missed around the Valley during the years to come.
All Delta Devils will miss him. May God bless the family during these times, and remember where your strength comes from which it comes always from God.
