Now, let's see if this tread continues for the rest of the season.

Brown pitches better, but still loses

NEW YORK (AP) -- Kevin Brown looked much better. The rest of the New York Yankees did not.

John Lackey combined with four relievers to shut down the all-or-nothing Yankees, and the Los Angeles Angels got RBI singles from Vladimir Guerrero and Darin Erstad in a 3-1 victory Thursday night.

The Angels took two of three at Yankee Stadium, assuring New York (9-13) of its first losing month since it was 11-17 in May 2003.

The Boss will have to rethink a few things when it comes to pitching. Mussina, Brown, and Wright have been rocked this year (the lowest ERA is 5 from the three with the highest being 9 -- Wright). Brown makes $15 million, Mussina ($19 million), Johnson ($15 million -- ERA is 4), and Wright ($5.6 million -- currently on the DL). That is close to $50 million for those guys and results are not manifesting on the field. Shilling has shown he can shut down the Yankees powerful lineup. Yanks have to counteract with pitching -- something the Bombers do not have.
