WHO DAT NATION UPDATES

Says someone that don't have a clue about how the cap works or how to work around the cap. Maybe after you can figure out 1+1 then it may slowly start to make sense.

The Saints converted Byrd’s roster bonus to a signing bonus -- a simple tweak that saves $4.8 million against the 2015 cap, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates.

The Saints also released running back Pierre Thomas on Wednesday. However, they’ve got more work to do as they still need to trim more than $15 million in salary-cap space by March 10.

New Orleans could save all $15 million through similar bonus restructures to the contracts of tight end Jimmy Graham and linebackers Junior Galette and Curtis Lofton. However, it’s also possible the team will consider releasing, trading or demanding pay cuts from Galette and Lofton instead.

Other players in jeopardy of being released or taking pay cuts include receiver Marques Colston, guards Ben Grubbs and Jahri Evans, defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, linebacker David Hawthorne and cornerback Corey White.

Byrd, 28, was signed to a lucrative free-agent deal last offseason worth $54 million over six years. The Saints planned all along to restructure his second-year bonus for cap purposes.

Byrd was due a $6 million roster bonus this year, which will now become a signing bonus and count just $1.2 million against the cap for each of the next five years. Byrd’s salary-cap cost dropped from $10.3 million to $5.5 million.

A three-time Pro Bowl safety with the Buffalo Bills, Byrd spent most of last season on injured reserve after he tore the lateral meniscus in his knee during practice. But he tweeted Wednesday that he has officially been cleared for the 2015 season.

Right on time.

We kept Colston. I think we learned something about locker room leadership last year. We let those veterans go too soon.

Ingram just agreed to a 4 year deal with the Saints. Wait until we start upgrading the defense..... Get it done!!!:cool:

Yep we will get a #2 CB in free agency (plenty of good ones to choose from), another pass rusher in the draft, and another inside LB. In the meantime your OL will continue to suck because Arthur Blank is cheap and your defense will continue to suck. Not to mention y'all flipped a coin basically when choosing a HC.

Beans you are the resident empty wagon around here. Talk about clueless you should ask those jstank players that were sent home at their own pro-day lmao! I wonder if the genius who caught the pass out of bounds and made NOT top 10 was one of them.

Like I said, clueless.....LOL!!!! Just keep waiting on the tooth fairy to bring you your goodies in her little bag. You'll see soon enough.

You keep claiming the cap is stopping us from signing players and yet we continue to sign players. Who's clueless again? You don't even understand how the cap works.

LOL!!!! Dude, you all keep prolonging the inevitable. But just like Armageddon, IT'S COMING. keep pushing ALL those loaded contracts back. Keep back loading them, cause your downfall is right around the corner.

I know a funky chicken fan isn't talking about the tooth fairy when this is probably their team's most loyal fan.
