Rickey Smiley knows exactly what his fans want in Birmingham: jokes about their hometown, goofy character sketches and lots of classic R&B tunes.

The audience can expect all three elements at Magic City Music Fest, set for Oct. 30 at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC.

Smiley will host the 7:30 p.m. show, which features Jodeci, SWV (Sisters With Voices), Dru Hill and Doug E. Fresh.

I'm cool with that. I never really cared for the post-game concerts. Felt it took too much attention away from the game itself.

2015 McDonald's Magic City Classic Parade

By WBRC Staff

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The 2015 McDonald's Magic City Classic Parade will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 31.

You can watch the parade LIVE on WBRC FOX6 and Bounce TV from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Celebrity Ambassador Anthony Anderson from the hit show Blackish will be in attendance along with Birmingham Mayor William Bell, various marching and non-marching bands, and many more familiar faces.

Participants are expected from all over to take part in the weekend of festivities and fans are encouraged to arrive early as spots are expected to fill up quickly.

"We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Alabama Sports Foundation on this broadcast," said WBRC FOX6 News Vice President and General Manager Collin R. Gaston. "This parade and the significance it maintains nationally deserved as much exposure as it can get and we decided putting it on two of our broadcast stations (WBRC and BOUNCE) just made sense! So much so, we opted to extend our exclusive agreement into 2016 so we could broadcast live

New Magic City Classic tradition: Giving back to Birmingham charities

Thousands of people flock to Birmingham each fall for the Magic City Classic, which boasts the highest attendance in the country for a football game between two historically black universities.

The weekend, steeped in tradition, is known for the tailgating experience, the historic rivalry between Alabama State and Alabama A&M, the halftime performance and the musicians and comedians who perform.

The economic impact regularly surpasses $20 million. This year marks the 74th annual Magic City Classic, and city officials hope the event can help the community in another way, through a donation drive that will benefit local organizations that serve Birmingham's residents who are in need.

"The Magic City Classic offers a lot to our city through tourism, hotel lodging, restaurant services, entertainment venues and quality shopping experiences," Council President Johnathan Austin said. "However, during this time, the City of Birmingham has the unique opportunity to encourage neighbors and visitors to give back to people in need and help to effect change in our community."
