SWAC's Gainey in U.S. delegation:
Nichelle Gainey, assistant commissioner in charge of marketing for the Birmingham-based Southwest Athletic Conference, will be part of an international group of delegates headed to Germany for the World Cup. She is a guest of the chairman of the South African World Cup Committee.
She will leave for Berlin June 23 and will attend the July 8 closing ceremony, when a symbolic torch will be passed from Germany to South Africa, site of the 2010 World Cup.
Gainey was chosen out of thousands who submitted applications in the two-year selection process.
