onward and upward son!
MVSU

1. Linebacker---Tyler Knight (SWAC Defensive POTY) and Clayton McDonald lead the best linebacking corps in the SWAC

2. Receiver ---Tyrone Timmons was the first Valley receiver to gain over 1,000 yards in years. Shang Moore, Kelvin Woods, and a couple more JUCOS and freshmen mean that we are LOADED at receiver.

3. Quarterback ---Aries "The Total Package" Nelson

4. O-Line ---they were decent, but made too many mental mistakes allowing for unnecessary sacks. They should be better.

5. D-Line --- big Ronald Green will have another year of experience on a line that he anchored as a freshman last year. (DT, 285-300 lbs., 4.7-4.9 speed)

6. Secondary --- they were torched last year, especially against Alcorn. Hopefully Chris Wilson, Pierre Marshall, and some big-time JUCO safeties can get the job done

7. Running Back --- this year we need more out of these guys to balance the offense. Joyel Haget, Walter Burnette, Carlton Cotton & Co. should be better this year.

8. Special teams--- we lost our All-SWAC kicker Joseph Blanco, so somebody has to step up and get the job done.

well this isnt done by me but the SID..

OFFENSE

Quarterback - Last year's team most valuable player, Kelcy Luke, returns as the key to the offensive success for A&M. Luke struggled early in 2005 in his first full-time starting role, but met his stride late in the season, leading the Bulldogs to six straight victories and a 9-3 record. At the conclusion of the season, Jones had found in Luke a field general who could beat a defense in a number of ways. He has the arm strength and accuracy to move the ball via the air, but can also make plays with his legs. In 2005, Luke completed 56 percent (156-277) of his passes for just over 2000 yards. He threw 13 touchdowns to just nine interceptions in efficiently running the Bulldog offense. He is equally dangerous out of the pocket, as he was A&M's third-leading rusher accounting for 514 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns.

Tailback - The position Jones calls the most challenging entering the season is tailback. Nic Luke and Ta'mar Scott bring a wealth of experience to the position. Luke started at the position last season and rushed for a team-high 819 yards. Scott was the second-leading rusher on the team with 557 yards. Trevis O'Neal, who rushed for just over 100 yards in 2005, will also get a chance to carry the ball at both tailback and fullback.

Fullback - Jacques Pyant became the team's fifth-leading rusher a year ago with 236 yards on just 34 carries. He also owned the team's second-longest run from scrimmage, a 51-yard romp vs. Grambling in the SWAC Championship game. O'Neal and Kevin Mccants will also see time at fullback for the Bulldogs.

Receivers - The only position where Alabama A&M has to find a new starter is at wide receiver, replacing Tim Robinson. Fortunately for Jones, there are plenty of candidates to fill both starting slots. Emmanuel Edwards was the leading receiver in 2005 with 28 catches for 415 yards. Kevin Francis caught 18 balls for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Mitchell rounded out the regular season in 2005 with a four-catch, 148-yard performance at Prairie View, which earned him SWAC Player of the Week honors. Tedric Milton averaged nearly 14 yards per catch in 2005, while Gerald Stockdale appeared in 11 games and caught 11 passes last season. Paul Kellum should also earn some playing time at receiver after appearing in two games as a freshman and pulling down seven catches.

Tight End - The skill position with the most raw talent for Alabama A&M's offense is at tight end. Charles Moody and John Smith combined for 29 catches, 284 yards, and six touchdowns last season at the tight end position. Moody grabbed 18 balls for 171 yards and had all three of his touchdowns in one game vs. Allen. He was a second-team all-SWAC selection in 2004. Smith stands 6'7" and is an imposing figure down field as an eligible receiver. In 2005, he caught 11 passes for 113 yards and three scores. According to Jones, both are as talented as any tight end in the SWAC, and fulfill both the blocking and the receiving duties of the position as well as anyone at this level of football.

Offensive Line - With all five starters returning, and two of them earning all-conference honors in 2005, the offensive line will be the heart and soul of the AAMU offense this season. Jeffery Johnson and Antonio Regist both earned second-team all-SWAC in 2005. The duo comprises the left side of the line for the Bulldogs with Johnson at guard and Regist at tackle. Holding down the center position is Chris Franklin, while the right side consists of Kristian Smith at guard and Roderick Johnson at tackle. The group averages nearly 6'3" and over 315 pounds on the front line.
