D-1A Criteria
Most demonstrate over a rolling two-year period either an average minimum actual attendance of 15,000 for all home football games, or at least one season in which the institution averages a minimum of 15,000 in paid attendance for home games.

Disussed last year. But the number of required sports is interesting. The NCAA says that for D1A a school would have to sponsor 16;if I'm not mistaken the SWAC requires it schools to sponsor 19!!. If that's the case why would the SWAC would want to put an extra financial burden on it's school members.

SEE D1A REQUIREMENT CHART BELOW!

The SWAC sponsor's 18 intercollegiate NCAA sports (8-men, 10 women). AAMU fields 19 (mens' soccer).

Going by that chart above pbla, D-1A schools must offer 200 grant-in-aids on student-athletes, or at least spend $4 million in grants to student-athletes. How does the SWAC member schools compare to this?
