Using a college recruit to sell season tickets. Man listen.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletics Department announced Wednesday the beginning of its new season ticket summer sales campaign for the upcoming 2015-16 men’s basketball season.

This year’s campaign will focus on the arrival of the nation’s No. 1 recruit, Ben Simmons, and his chosen jersey number “25.”

Through this “25” campaign, fans wishing to become season ticket holders will have the opportunity to lock in their season tickets for the 2015-16 men’s basketball season in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Season tickets start at just $100. Returning season ticket holders will have the opportunity to renew their tickets beginning in late-June.

The campaign will be featured throughout the Baton Rouge community via print, billboard, online and social media advertising.

To be fair, LSU is not the only big school that pimp their student athletes.

And Todd Gurley was trying to sell his autograph.

That has nothing to do with this. I'm sure these schools would gladly pay the athletes (as if they aren't already) if the NCAA allowed it. In addition to that they aren't even using the kid's likeness. They're using his jersey number. What's the issue?

And his name.

Now what if this kid tried to use his name and number to make money via selling something? Hell would be coming to breakfast for him.

That's the issue.

LSU had the young man,s full consent to do that ad campaign plus his godfather is on the coaching staff.

LSU associate head coach David Patrick is Simmons' godfather, and it's not a simply relationship of convenience. Patrick is an Australian native who played basketball in the U.S. and has coached here since he graduating, establishing a pipeline to his home land.
