Leveling the FBS/FCS playing field

As it currently stands, FBS schools and all their riches are allowed to carry a maximum of 85 scholarships. FCS schools are allowed 63.

The NCAA preaches equity. Equality. Uniformity regardless of resources. But like @Kenn Rashad and others have pointed out (regarding the HBCUs and the FCS playoff debacle), the NCAA rarely practices what it preaches.

I wonder if the FCS conferences would suggest to the NCAA limiting both subdivisions to 74 scholarships rather than the current 85 limit for FBS and 63 for FCS. The biggest issue would be increased budgets for FCS schools, but that would go a long way toward leveling the playing field. That would leave more quality athletes available to the FCS and HBCUs. And believe it or not, taking 11 schollys away from every FBS school will add up tremendously.

There are two divisions for a reason. smh

There should be NO level playing field because it's two different levels. That's like D2 asking to level the playing field with FCS. It's a different level. If you want to operate under their conditions. move up to their level. Why bring them down to ours? We keep getting shat confused. College football has DIVISIONS! Yet, we act as if they don't exist, especially when it comes to scheduling.

WHY have two divisions if they have the same scholarship requirements and play the same teams? Makes no sense to me.

Every other sport has a "level" playing field except college football which is driving all this realignment talk. Since they're the big bread winners, they get to make up their own rules as they go.

Except they've locked the doors and are attempting to keep everyone out while simultaneously the P5 trying to separate themselves from the rest of FBS.

One, how many FCS teams would be able to afford it considering most are already operating in or near the red? Two, it wouldn't even come close to leveling the playing field. Do you really think that if Alabama lost 11 scholarships and A&M gained 11 that it would make any difference at all in a game? No because, like now, even if a kid doesn't get a full scholarship from an FBS school, they're still more likely to walk on at an FBS school than they are to attend the FCS school if they're sought after. And, if you play that game then the FBS will just argue that FCS needs to also provide cost of attendance. That alone will make 80% of FCS schools say nah nevermind.

What this isn't taking into account is the fact that most FCS schools don't even want to offer more scholarships and would likely have to raise student fees just to cover the expenses. Considering most are already operating over 50% on subsidy, don't see how on earth this would be a good idea.

Alabama would lose 11, so would:

Auburn
Troy
South Alabama
UAB

That's 55 kids who would probably have to drop down a level.

But, like you said, the issue is money. But that's where the administration comes in. They will be forced to raise money. Some will, some wont. Those that can't might have to go D2 or simply play at a disadvantage in FCS (hell, they already do, if we're being honest).

Here's a thought. If they wanted it level they would have never separated them in the first place. Want to play with the big boys

Get your weight up like I tell the D2 schools that want to get a piece of the pie now that the celebration bowl is a success.
