A select group of students at Grambling State University are getting the rare opportunity to work with a professional film crew to produce a full-length television pilot on their own campus.

The project is part of the university’s new Film Workforce Training Program, a 10-week intensive training program that will pair television and film professionals with 15 student interns as they create the pilot episode of a sitcom.

The first half of the program was spent in the classroom, allowing students to learn the technical side of the film production process, and now the students will get to apply what they’ve learned as they work alongside industry professionals on the project. Filming will take place Aug. 13-17.

Television producer and writer Michael Ajakwe Jr., who has worked on shows such as “Martin,†“Eve,†“Sister, Sister†and “Moesha,†and producer James Tripp, who has worked on “Eve,†“The Sinbad Show†and “Moesha,†will work with students on the pilot.

Should be a good and positive experience for the students.
