LOS ANGELES – It’s hard to lose your roster spot on the day rosters expand to 40 players.

But the Giants decided that Justin Maxwell didn’t fit with them anymore.

They designated Maxwell for assignment and that was a bigger surprise than any of their additions on Tuesday. The club needed his roster space to purchase the contract of infielder Nick Noonan, who was needed because third baseman Matt Duffy can’t play every inning and it’s hard to relish the thought of more playing time for Ehire Adrianza.

In addition to Noonan, the Giants called up catcher Hector Sanchez and right-hander Cody Hall from Triple-A Sacramento. They also activated pitcher Tim Hudson and outfielder Angel Pagan from the disabled list. And new acquisition Alejandro De Aza was added to the roster.
