FAMU rose to No. 91 among the nation’s public universities

FAMU rose to No. 91 among the nation’s public universities — a whopping 12 spots from last year’s placement at No. 103 — meeting a long-time goal of joining the Top 100, which has been highlighted as a priority in the university's “Boldly Striking” five-year strategic plan during the past few years.

The university also celebrates its continued standing of being the No. 1 public HBCU (historically Black college or university) in the nation for the fifth consecutive year, moving up to third place compared to seventh place last year.

In addition, FAMU ranked No. 170 among national universities compared to its No. 202 ranking last year.

The ONLY SWAC school to ever land in the top 10 of HBCUs and the only public HBCU to be among the top 100 public national institutions. Proud of ya'll and the only reason others haven't is because FAMU is the only SWAC school that has high standards they must achieve or there will be devastating consequences. The state requested FAMU tighten up its admission standards which helped tremendously and the state holds FAMU accountable for meeting achievement benchmarks. I hope this means more funding from the state @Venom Skywalker

Texas Southern was ranked #49 among HBCUs and unranked overall which don't surprise me. Like most HBCUs, we have the worst leadership and just like many (not all) of the students most of them are only concern with thinking small, doing enough to get by, greek life, band life, and partying/homecoming. Our admission standards are terrible except for the Honors College. A failing student who never showed he or she cared about their academic career caneasily finesse their way in b/c TSU cares more about money than quality. Our board of regents are lazy and do not care about the university ... it's only a resume builder and ego booster for them. We have so many internal issues because TSU has the ingredients to be where FAMU is but we need the right people putting everything together which we never had. They constantly bragging about enrollment increases but we keep falling under the 30% 6-year graduation mark while almost everybody in Texas has far surpassed it including PV ... what's going on with enrollment retention?! ... lets start a department that focuses on keeping most of these folks enrolled to graduation. I can run TSU better than what I'm seeing honestly

Our schools have been underfunded for decades. Do you think we will catch up overnight when we have been set back on purpose because it's 2023? Yes we can do better, but if they have underfunded higher education as they continue to do what do you think they have done to public schools? Why do you think the republican party really wants to get rid of the department of education which Trump has promised to do if re-elected? It's certainly not to help black people!

Below is a list of other universities identified by the agencies, and the amount of money they should have been allotted in the past 30 years.

Underfunding of course is a issue but the BIGGER ISSUE is the leadership. FAMU is also underfunded but with great leadership, strategy, and accountability they have managed to beat the odds. More HBCUs can do the same but it's just very unlikely given our track record

And please note FAMU is ranked better than many BETTER funded schools including Mississippi State, LSU, University of North Texas, and Texas Tech. And is tied with the University of Alabama. FAMU has provided us the blue print on how to remain competitive with most PWIs but watch how many HBCUs ignore it and keep doing stupid s*it and making excuses

Their alumni give back big time also. They bring in a lot of corporate dollars as they have several alumni working in those offices.

They do, they recently broke an alumni giving record. JSU, Claflin, and Spelman alumni also give back in good number too. I can't really think of too many other HBCUs that do better than average in alumni giving. TSU alumni just starting to give back and get better organized in donating money. For the last couple of years we raised over a million dollars at our Maroon & Gray gala but i don't know if it will continue since another president is fired, But we need to get that up even higher ... a million dollars aint much. Across the street the University of Houston just raised a billion dollars in 5-7 years

PVAMU's current president checks all those boxes (i.e., leadership, strategy and accountability).
