Dozens of students from Dallas' Townview Magnet School gathered in front of City Hall Saturday evening to protest the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was gunned down last month in Sanford, Fla.

The 17-year-old's death and the decision by police officials not to arrest the neighborhood watch leader who shot him has sparked growing outrage nationwide and similar protests, including one held Friday at Paul Quinn College.

"For a young man who wasn't doing anything but walking home from the store to be gunned down like an animal is unjustified,' said Alexus Mason, (pictured) a senior at Townview. "Trayvon didn't do anything. He was walking."

Florida officials have cited the state's "stand your ground" law, which allows people to use deadly force rather than retreat when threatened, as the reason why George Zimmerman has not been charged with the teen's Feb. 26 death. Sanford police have been accused of failing to fully investigate the teen's death, and the police chief has temporarily stepped aside amid growing calls for his firing.

And the KEY for this-

State Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, has said that he will introduce legislation to place limitations on the Texas law, including a provision that would mandate an investigation of all shootings in which the shooter claimed self-defense.
