Cal asks NCAA for a waiver to count win vs. Grambling for bowl eligibility

In a new twist to the question of whether enough teams will meet the NCAA’s normal qualifications for bowl participation to fill all the spots in 40 postseason games, the University of California has asked the NCAA Football Oversight Committee for a waiver that will allow it to count its victory against Grambling among the six needed to play in a bowl game.

In response to an inquiry from USA TODAY Sports, Grambling’s interim assistant athletic director Patricia Simmons said

Grambling officials are still seeking to compile the all-countable-aid figure for 2013-14, Simmons said Tuesday night.

But Grambling has told us and we believe strongly that the requirement has been met and this will not be an issue.”

This will not end well for Cal and they did well to file the waiver, imho. smh Cal doesn't realize what it is dealing w/. :(

Cal’s status becomes an issue at a time when 70 other schools have met the six-win requirement for bowl eligibility and the Football Oversight Committee is meeting to discuss how the NCAA should handle the prospect of not having enough teams with at least six wins to fill the 80 bowl slots. The committee said it will render a decision next week.

Hmm........maybe borrow some FCS teams to fill in the void.

Earlier this month, the California department of intercollegiate athletics applied for a waiver with the NCAA to count the Grambling State win among the six required for bowl eligibility in the Football Bowl Subdivision, but that waiver will not be needed. BearTerritory has confirmed that the Cal football team is bowl eligible, regardless of the outcome of Saturday's game against Arizona State.

Cal spokesman Wes Mallette confirmed that Cal has spoken with the NCAA, and Grambling has indeed met all the requirements.

"We've heard from the NCAA, and from Grambling, and Grambling has met the 90 percent financial aid requirement for the rolling two-year average," Mallette said. "In short, the win over Grambling counts towards bowl eligibility."

I'm sure there is a collective *sigh* throughout black/gold land as the mounting campaign to rightfully show incompetence on their campus was evident. That USA Today article was published on the web @ "7:52 p.m. EST November 24, 2015." Ol' small boy1919 (and others) were about to stroke out w/ the continued barrage of evidence that there are infrastructure problems on their campus. "Interim AD." Geez...louise.

...lol

Saving face huh lmao

Huh? I'm not one w/ an "interim" title being asked by professional staffers @ another university to provide information that should be accurate and readily available. You people seriously don't know how that makes you look, do you? I simply reposted an article from a national publication that did a decent job of demonstrating your school's ineptness coupled w/ providing the required negative proof from the strike deal a few years ago. " Steve Berkowitz, USA TODAY Sports" is his name, btw. smh :(

Because of that, Cal has filed for the waiver. According to NCAA rules, the waiver can be approved “if a unique or catastrophic situation” affects a given FCS school. Grambling’s athletics program has been through significant upheaval in recent years, including a one-game boycott by football players in October 2013 because of a variety of conditions, including deteriorating facilities and equipment.

Steve's words ^^^^^^^^^^^^^, not mine. Stroke out over him, mes non amie. You could've saved those superfluous keystrokes and emotional waste of broadband.

me-> :D

Still trying to save face lol. It's done, Cal didn't need a waiver and you're still harping lmao. One day you're whining about wishing PV can play Grambling again, next day something else, sad, really sad lmao. Happy Thanksgiving rotfl.

You're still blinded by your black/gold glasses to see that Steve called you people out in a national publication that went... nationwide. *gasp!* *gasp!* Identifying malfeasance and ineptness about your school. Inasmuch as you can TRY to divert w/ that remedial whining bull, you simply refuse to acknowledge that... well, you people have problems over there. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

He lives here, btw---> http://www.usatoday.com/staff/1757/steve-berkowitz/ ; Enjoy your buy-you classic lol.
