Skip Bertman knows that most LSU football fans only see the price of their football tickets going up this season.
He wants them to see his vision of the future. The future of what he says it will cost to keep the LSU athletic department self-sufficient.
?What?s not in this equation is they (the board) are going to raise tuition,? the LSU athletic director said Thursday after the Board of Supervisors approved a plan to raise Tradition Fund fees and the ticket price of one game for the 2006 season. ?There?s no question about it. They?re going to raise the price of housing and food ? to survive.?
The measure passed unanimously 13-0. Three board members ? Marty Chabert, Louis Lambert and Laura Leach ? were not present.
LSU athletic department officials say they planned to come to the board in 2007 with a ticket price increase, but were forced to do so now because of increased costs in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
?No one wants increases,? LSU Chancellor Sean O?Keefe said before the board vote. ?The goal is to continue to provide for a self-sustaining athletic program.?
