Another HBCU shooting and killing..........

Man this is awfully sad - the shootings on or near these campuses. A center for learning, maturing, and advancement is turning into a battle zone. :(

Lord, we pray Your hand of protection and covering Grace over our families, friends, loved ones; we pray the Blood of Jesus Christ over our campuses! Please!

This so very sad to hear and is starting to become too familiar with our HBCUs.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —A former Winston-Salem State University student has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a student on campus early Sunday morning. Another student was injured.

Jarrett Jerome Moore, 21, of Charlotte, was arrested in Charlotte early Monday and charged with murder in connection with the death of Anthony White Jr. Moore, who also faces a charge of possession of a weapon on school grounds, was arrested after a short foot chase, Winston-Salem police said.

White, 19, died at the scene of the shooting around 1:20 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot between Wilson Hall and Gleason-Hairston Terrace. An unidentified student was treated for non life-threatening injuries at a hospital and released.

Winston-Salem police said no other suspects are wanted in connection with the shooting, and the incident was isolated to only the suspect and the two victims. Police and WSSU officials released no other information, including an arrest photo of Moore, citing an ongoing investigation.

Moore was a WSSU student from 2014 to 2015, school officials said.

White was a second-year student at WSSU. School officials said White was from Charlotte, and sister station WYFF reported White graduated from high school in 2014 about 30 miles south of Greenville, S.C.

The WSSU campus was locked down for more than 3 hours until just before 5 a.m. Sunday. The public was asked to stay away from campus Sunday, though classes were held as normal Monday.

The shooting came as WSSU was wrapping up its homecoming festivities. It also came just two days after WSSU installed new chancellor Elwood Robinson.

Counselors were made available for students, and a vigil took place on campus Sunday evening.
