Why shouldn't he look out for his players, game one, a JSU player mouth got so excessive, the ump had to warn the JSU bench, game 2 one our players got hit by a pitch 4 times then the jaw incident....Take up for your team Melendez, 7 freshman in the starting line up and 3 of 4 starting pitchers are freshman and were sittin in second in the SWAC east.....GO HORNETS!

Aheem.
Many of the Hornets "made their way over to the Jackson State dugout", being physically restrained by ASU coaches, trainers and campus police.
I tell ya, sounds like you guys have no composure nor real leadership from Melendez. Cue the ASU cafeteria incident all back over again.

Also, as far as the fact that one of your players got hit by a pitch 4 times--what does that tell you? How in the hell can "1" player get hit exactly 4 times in one game unless he was "trying" to get hit so he could get on base! :shame: This sounds so much like leaning into pitches. But oh well...

Take the loss and learn how to play with composure. This Melendez guy sounds like a sore loser and a pretentious, immature batch!

Got swept in Jackson and about to swept at home...... Mel thinking why can't we beat them??? FAMU beat 'em so should I!!!!

Perhaps he don't understand that in the SWAC "real" good pitcher rotation is reserved for weekend "D-1" conference games. :emlaugh:

7 batters hit by pitch????? :smh:

ummm, you REALLY shouldn't want to start "cueing" incidents. :retard:
:smh::smh:

How come? The ASU cafeteria incident has to be the most remarkable piece of unadulterated, low-income HBCU status video that's ever been created! Talk about country, foolish, ignorant, and downright pathetic all rolled into one epic masterpiece.

But I digress. This thread is about Melendez crying about baseball because you guys were about get swept. So tell me, how do you think Mel feels now! :lmao:

Congrats to Melendez for not going on a profanity laced hissy fit.... after the game.... in Montgomery. :snicker:
:scared:

I am sure the ump warned the bench 'cause your coach was over there :bawling: Looks like we about to send someone crying back to the MEAC.

Congrats to Melendez for not going on a profanity laced hissy fit.... after the game.... in Montgomery. :snicker:

No, better yet, he just sent his goons to our dugout to fight--only of course after instructing his players to lean into pitches during game 1 and game 2. This on top of making some very immature statements in the newspaper that the SWAC will probably reprimand him for.

Hey, can somebody tell me if the player that was hit by a pitch 4 times in one game, the same player that got jawed up in game 3?

As well as you should.
:snicker again:

welcome back coldie. After running for so long... All during football and all during bball.

Nothing like baseball and golf to get you back.

congrats.

Man, don't be like that. For as long as I was gone, I would think you would switch out your ammunition for something more powerful. :shame: You still shooting blanks homie! :shame: Make sure you find that lucky hat of yours too. We wouldn't want you coming back to Jackson without it. It's so unbecoming of you!

Alabama State’s baseball series with Jackson State didn’t end the way Hornets coach Mervyl Melendez would have liked.

Actually, it hasn’t ended. Play in Sunday’s game was suspended in the eighth inning after a beaning incident led to a near-brawl, causing the umpires to walk off the field with Jackson State ahead 3-2.

Southwestern Athletic Conference officials labeled it a suspended game, but in all likelihood will declare the outcome final after reviewing the contest. That’s the message Melendez delivered to his team in the moments following the game as campus police quickly escorted both the umpires and the Jackson State team off the campus.

“I honestly learned more about the opponent than I did about us,” the first-year ASU coach said. “I came into this conference with a frame of mind about how to play the game of baseball, how to go about the game of baseball the right way. I’m very disappointed after this weekend and the weekend that we went up there (on March 9-10) to see how the game is played on their side — which is a lot of taunting, a lot of talking to our players. That shouldn’t be part of baseball and I got aggravated about it when we went over there. This is Division I baseball and it should be played with class.”

Although he is probably disappointed about getting sweep for the season he has a point. A lot of schools in the conference have had a problems with JSU when it comes to baseball (Alcorn, Prairie View, Valley). This is nothing new. JSU is still playing that 1990's and early 2000's brand of SWAC baseball. They're going to talk trash to your players, coaches, fans, or whoever else is not in JSU blue and white. The said part is that brand of baseball hasn't gotten them anywhere. When is the last time they won a SWAC Baseball title? It was in 2000 by Robert Braddy. Since he has retired after that championship the JSU Tigers have underacheived under Mark Salters and now Omar Johnson. They've had some very talented All-SWAC players on their teams, lead the country in steals, hitting, and won several SWAC East titles but have not won a SWAC Championship since 2000.

Where I disagree with Melendez is the SWAC does play real baseball. It has improved tremendously over the last decade. The conference is more competitive top to bottom then any other time before. An emphasis is being put into baseball by hiring young professional coaches, recruiting quality players, and upgrading facilities. Every organization has it's problems. Now Melendez knows what to expect when he plays JSU. I think Melendez has an idea of where he wants Alabama State baseball to go in the future. It will not happen over night, but he can be just as successful in the SWAC as he was in the MEAC at Bethune Cookman in just a few years. Not too long ago very successful high school coach by the name of Michael Robertson came to a dismal Prairie View program and turned it around with the same approach.

Have Bama St won a baseball championship?

From Montgomery Advertiser:

"The taunting from the Jackson State dugout continued as Rodriguez was examined by ASU trainer Rachel Waddle and she later convinced Melendez to replace Rodriguez with catcher Richard Gonzalez, fearing Rodriguez’s jaw might have been broken by the pitch.

Unfortunately for Russell, he came to the plate as a batter in the eighth inning and Matthews promptly threw two consecutive pitches at his head, prompting an ejection by Bradley."

Back and forth bench jocking happens, and hitting or throwing at an opposing player is acceptable below the head. But you don't taunt a player who is injured, and you don't throw at people's heads. That's not part of the game of baseball. That's shows no class and you can get someone seriously hurt.

It seems as if JSU gets into a lot of fights. Football, Baseball, Track! Thug U! :smh:

Don't forget basketball. Shiat, they went to the NIT tourney and one of their players socked another player below the belt on national t.v. I'm looking at this game and not believing........ :emlaugh:
